The University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) is the oldest and largest public university in Tanzania. It was established in 1961 as an affiliate college of the University of London, before becoming part of the University of East Africa in 1963, and later gaining full university status in 1970. Located on the Ubungo Hills, about 13 kilometers west of Dar es Salaam city center, UDSM is a leading institution of higher learning, research, and innovation in the country.
