The Public Service Recruitment Secretariat (PSRS) is a government agency in Tanzania established under the Public Service Act No. 8 of 2002 (amended in 2007). It operates under the President’s Office, Public Service Management and Good Governance. Its main role is to coordinate and facilitate fair, transparent, and merit-based recruitment into the Tanzanian public service. PSRS ensures that public institutions are staffed with qualified and competent personnel, free from favoritism, corruption, or bias.
The Secretariat is responsible for advertising vacancies, shortlisting applicants, organizing interviews, and recommending successful candidates for appointment to various government ministries, departments, and agencies. It also maintains a database of job seekers and provides advice to public institutions on best recruitment practices. By upholding professionalism and efficiency in public service hiring, PSRS plays a critical role in strengthening good governance and improving service delivery in Tanzania.
